Walking to Suport!

One of the members of this "support" group heard about a "Buddy Walk" for Down syndrome. They decided they should hold a "Walk" in Tusc. County to help raise money and awareness in our local community. The first year almost 300 people participated in the Tusc. County Walk! Since then the Walk has helped families in Tusc. County both financially and emotionally. It has given our community a chance to come together to raise awareness of Down syndrome and let the persons with that diagnosis shine during the Walk.

Down Syndrome is the most frequently occurring chromosomal disorder, effecting approximately 1 in every 800-1,000 births in the United States. In Tuscarawas County, the Down Syndrome birth-rate is higher than the National Average.

More than 350,000 people in the U.S. have Down syndrome.

95% of persons with Down syndrome have an extra copy of the 21st chromosome in every cell.
